Mountain View Cemetery Tour

Nestled atop the East Bay hills and self-described as a “park-like-cemetery,”
Mountain View offers sweeping views and winding gardens, welcoming
visitors to linger and take in all the grounds have to offer. Mountain
View’s 226 acres, located close to CCA’s Oakland campus at the end of
Piedmont avenue, offers a mausoleum, columbarium, crematorium and
several chapels. Mountain View is distinguished from other cemeteries
by its architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, the renowned landscape
architect responsible for designing Central Park in New York City, and
his vision of man and nature and their relationship to each other.

“Mountain View captures the imagination of the visitor who can’t help
being swept away by its grandeur and by a quality which one might call
the essential spirit of the place. It is a place where the dignity of
Nature is appreciated by those whose sentiments respond to the beauty
and serenity of the setting with a sense of reverence and awe. What
better place to contemplate eternity, nature and man’s destiny?”
