José Esteban Muñoz is a theorist interested in how agency is established through transgressive acts of seeing, writing, thinking, acting, and saying. He currently chairs the department of performance studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is the author of Disidentifications: Queers of Color and the Performance of Politics (University of Minnesota Press, 1999), and he has coedited Pop Out: Queer Warhol (Duke University Press, 1996), Everynight Life: Culture and Music in Latin/o America (Duke University Press, 1997), and special issues of Social Text and Women and Performance.
