Adrienne Skye Roberts

Adrienne Skye Roberts (MA 2009) is a writer, curator, community builder, and educator. She earned bachelor degrees in Studio Art and Feminist Studies at UC Santa Cruz prior to pursuing her MA in Visual and Critical Studies. Her MA thesis concerned “The Search for Belonging in New Orleans’s Landscape of Loss.” After graduating from CCA, Adrienne curated an exhibition called “Home is something I carry with me” featuring work by local artists that interrogate the concept of home; for this show she transformed three homes in San Francisco’s Mission District into exhibition spaces. At SF Camerawork, she co-curated “Suggestions of a Life Being Lived,” accompanied by a publication of the same title. She is a regular contributor to SFMOMA’s blog, Open Space. In 2012, she won a residency at the Philadelphia Art Hotel, where she deepened her exploration of some of the ideas about “belonging” and “home” underlying her exhibition concepts and her thesis. During her residency in Philidelphia she unearthed the history of her Grandpa Joe, who was prosecuted in 1953 under the Smith Act, a federal statute prohibiting alien residents from advocating the overthrow of the United States government.
