M. G. Renu Cappelli

M. G. Renu Cappelli completed her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at UC Berkeley in 2007. Her research explores interventions into normative models of identity, focusing in particular on how desire, resistance, and trauma stage and interrogate racial formations and sexual subjectivities. Her work on performance investigates the social and psychological dimensions of form.In her scholarship and her teaching, Renu is drawn to deepening understanding and appreciation for the opportunities that communication across differences can afford, especially when it comes to tending to and appreciating our various identities, abilities, and desires. She was born in Italy, traveled through India, Greece, and France for much of her childhood, and her adolescent years were spent in Hawaii. She has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past decade. These geographies and the people who affect her within them, are integral to her work and practice.
