This essay gives an introductory overview of magazines created by artists and investigates their contributions to the landscape of artistic production in an age in which the original art object has been thoroughly usurped by its reproducible copy. It also provides a brief description of one seminal artist’s publication—FILE Megazine—that I will be examining in greater depth in my finalized thesis. The final thesis will offer expanded views of six such magazines that will further illustrate my definition of artist’s publications.
